What is the Denver Metro Summer Swimming League?
Crestmoor Participates in the Denver Metro League Swimming Association aka The Metro League
About the Denver Metro League Swim Association
The Denver Metro League Swimming Association, generally referred to simply as the Metro League, is a summer swimming league serving five swim clubs in Denver: Crestmoor Community Association, Eastmoor Swim & Tennis Club, Skyline Acres Swim & Tennis Club, Central Park Stingrays, and Virginia Vale Swim Club.
Metro is one of three formal summer swimming leagues that make up the Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Association (CSSCSA), along with the Foothills Swimming Association and South Jeffco Swimming League. CSSCSA brings swimmers from those leagues—and eligible independent teams—together each July for the Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Championships.
Publicly available information about the early history of the Metro League is limited; in the absence of an official source, what we have is culled from multiple third parties. The Metro League’s history is limited but has evolved over time. Central Park previously competed as the Stapleton Stingrays and changed their name along with the whole neighborhood in 2020; earlier iterations of the league also included the Colorado Athletic Club at Monaco & Bear Creek. Today, Metro consists of five clubs located throughout Denver.
The summer season generally begins in late May, moves through regular-season dual meets in June and early July, and concludes with B League, the Metro League Championship aka “A League” in mid-July, and the CSSCSA State Championships in late July.

How the Metro League Season Works
Metro League swimming is designed to accommodate a wide range of swimmers, from children participating in their first competitive swim meet to experienced swimmers pursuing league and State championships.
Swimmers compete according to age, with age determined as of May 15 of the current year.
The primary age groups are:
- 8 & Under
- 9–10
- 11–12
- Upper Division — ages 13–18
Regular-Season Dual Meets
The five Metro clubs generally compete in a round-robin regular season, giving each team an opportunity to swim against the other four Metro teams.
Most dual meets are generally held on Friday mornings, although Saturday meets can be scheduled in the early season to accommodate school schedules; these are the exception, not the rule. Warm-ups typically start for the older children around 6:30 and the younger ones at 7:00 am. The races themselves typically start around 7:30 a.m. with the 400-meter events.
At a regular Metro dual meet, a swimmer may compete in:
- Up to three individual events
- Up to two relay events
Races are organized by age group and gender. Dual meets are intended to include swimmers throughout the team and are an important part of the recreational as well as competitive experience of summer swimming.
Championships & Qualifying Meets
As the regular season progresses, swimmers may become eligible for additional meets based upon their age and race times.
Ken Caryl Invitational — KCI
Hosted by the Ken Caryl Lightning, Ken Caryl Invitational, commonly called KCI, is not a Metro League event, but is an important qualifying invitational during the summer season. It is hosted, as you might expect, at the Ken Caryl Ranch Pool.
KCI is held in late June and requires swimmers to meet published qualifying standards. Because KCI standards are generally more attainable than State standards, qualifying for KCI is an important early-season goal and milestone for many swimmers.
This meet also serves as a good gauge of where your more competitive swimmers may sit at the state level. As an example, here are the 2026 KCI Qualifying times & Meet results.
B League
This League is a Metro League postseason meet for 12-and-under swimmers who have not qualified for the A Meet. B League provides an additional championship-style opportunity for younger & less experienced Metro League swimmers at the conclusion of the regular season.
In 2026, B League was held Tuesday, July 14 at the Eastmoor Swim & Tennis Club
The location and date rotate and are established by Metro League for each season.
Upper Division distinction
Swimmers in the 13–18 age groups automatically qualify for “A Meet/League Championships,” so there is no B Meet for them.
A League — Metro League Championship
A League is the Denver Metro League Championship Meet.
For younger swimmers, participation requires achieving the applicable Metro A League qualifying time during the season.
The published 2026 qualification standards contain A League cuts for the 8 & Under, 9–10, and 11–12 age groups.
A League brings all five Metro clubs together for the league championship and typically takes place over two days during the weekend immediately preceding the State Championship.
In 2026, A League was held Friday & Saturday, July 17–18 at the Virginia Vale Swim Club.
A League vs. B League
For families new to Metro League, the easiest way to understand the distinction is:
12 & Under: swimmers have B League as a postseason meet open to all swimmers except those with A League qualifying times. Swimmers who achieve the A League qualifying standards then compete at the Metro League Championship. It is possible to qualify for the “A” meet at the “B”
Upper Division (13–18): The A qualifying structure does not apply. B League is a 12-and-under meet, and the published 2026 qualification sheet does not establish A League time cuts for Upper Division events as participation is lower and all 13+ swimmers qualify for “A-Meet.”
Qualification Times
Metro swimmers may encounter three different sets of qualifying standards during the summer:
- KCI qualifying times
- A League qualifying times
- CSSCSA State qualifying times
These standards are listed on the link below.
View the 2026 KCI, A League & State Qualification Times
2027 qualification standards will be posted as they are released.
Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Championship
The State Meet is the final major competition of the summer season.
State Championships are not a Metro League meet and are sanctioned under CSSCSA rules. It is conducted by the Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Association (CSSCSA) and brings together qualifying swimmers from Metro, the Foothills Swimming Association, the South Jeffco Swimming League, and eligible independent summer teams from around Colorado.
Unlike a normal Metro dual meet, swimmers must achieve the published State qualifying time for an individual event in order to compete in that event at State. Qualifying relays may also participate under CSSCSA rules.
The State Championship is held over three days with the following schedule:
Friday: distance freestyle events (400s)
Saturday: Lower Division / 12 & Under
Sunday: Upper Division / 13 & Over
In 2026, the State Championship was hosted by the South Jeffco Swimming League on July 24–26.

About This Resource
This page is maintained by Crestmoor Community Association volunteers as a resource for swimmers and families. It is not an official website of the Denver Metro League Swimming Association.
Our goal is to make information about Metro League swimming easier for families to find and understand. Whenever possible, Crestmoor will link directly to league documents, member-club information, and official CSSCSA materials.
Because schedules, qualification standards, and competition procedures may change from year to year, families should always follow current instructions from Crestmoor’s coaches and swim chairs when entering a meet.
